Jonathan Irish Travel Photography - Photos From Around The World

I’m a lover of mountains, and, at least to me, there are not many things as cool as standing at the same height of a mountain and being able to see three different countries at once. Few things take my breath away (both physically and mentally) as grand mountain views from way up high. If you head up the Klein Matterhorn from Zermatt, Switzerland, you will gaze across Italian, French and Swiss Alps…three countries in the blink of an eye. Heck, you might even be able to see the Mediterranean up there. Seriously. And to get there you’ll have to take the highest cable-car in Europe, which is a thrill in it’s own right.

As you can see from the frost on J.C., it is darn cold up there. But I was lucky enough to go on a beautifully clear and crisp day, with views forever. That little mountaintop in the background? That’s the Matterhorn (just under 15,000 feet in height). To the left, out of the frame, you could see Mont Blanc. It’s a spectacular view up there…highly recommended.

If anyone knows Swiss German, has really good eyesight, and can read what is posted on the cross, I’d love to know. I am sure it is some kind of dedication to those who have lost their lives on the mountains.
